The further along in my career I proceed, both in the educational and social media fields, I understand the importance of making a good first impression. I don’t often write about fashion, as I am not an expert nor do I pretend to be. However, this collection from Roland Mouret makes me want to know about the history of the design and be first in line to purchase some new pieces that deliver the punch I need to make an unforgettable first impression. Looking forward to the collection this August, just in time for back to school shopping season.

Below is a full press release with more information on the designer, dates and his social media channels.

Banana Republic and celebrated designer Roland Mouret are pleased to announce the Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection – a limited-edition, covetable capsule highlighting Mouret’s keen understanding of fit and the female form through the use of Banana Republic’s signature Sloan fabric. Banana Republic’s Sloan Collection of dresses, skirts and pants has gained acclaim for the use of contour stretch fabric. The women’s capsule launches exclusively at select Banana Republic locations worldwide and online in early August 2014.

The foundation of the Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection – the Banana Republic Sloan fabric – is a unique blend of rich, bi-stretch fabric, which creates a “magic” fit that shapes through figure-flattering silhouettes. Mouret, famous for his exceptional skills in draping, structure and style, naturally gravitated toward this signature material, which he hand-draped, cut and pinned on the body to create this iconic capsule. The nearly 30-piece collection shines a light on Mouret’s craftsmanship talents through the use of this dynamic fabric.

Mouret is best known for his feminine, hourglass fitted dresses, which have become a favourite among Hollywood stars. In 2006, the British based designer with a French heart and soul, became a household name when A-listers first wore Mouret’s now-famous Galaxy dress on the red carpet.

“Partnering with Banana Republic on this project was such an adventure for me,” says Roland Mouret, founder and designer of his namesake label. “The common goal for this collection is to offer incredible fit through an assortment of hourglass silhouettes using Banana Republic’s Sloan fabric, extending my love of structure into accessible prices. These pieces are multi-functional for the modern woman to wear and accessorize in her own way, making her always ready for life’s journey.”

The Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection pushes fashion and function with must-have additions to a stylish modern wardrobe. Key details include bold colourblocking, graphic perforated details, leopard prints, playful proportions and, of course, svelte cuts on everything from blazers and pencil skirts to sheath dresses. Apparel includes petite styles and will range in price from $62 (belt) – $205 (dress).

“I’m so inspired by Roland’s skill for draping and attention to fit,” says Banana Republic Vice President of Women’s Design, Melloney Birkett. “He has such a strong sense of how to dress a woman, and brings a beautiful sensuality to his work. Roland’s vision really matched ours as we worked together to use his design expertise as a build to Banana Republic’s Sloan fabric to create a truly covetable collection.”

The Roland Mouret for Banana Republic Collection will be featured in Banana Republic’s August campaign, including select print, online, direct mail and in-store. Join the conversation on Twitter with @BRStyleCA @RolandMouret.

I cannot wait to support  the “Shop for Hope” campaign at my local Winners & HomeSense stores between Saturday April 12 and Sunday May 11, 2014. As Mother’s Day & Easter are quickly approaching I will purchasing specially marked Canadian Women’s Foundation products as the perfect gift for my loved ones. Tshirt

The net proceeds from the Shop for Hope collection, including t-shirts, pillows, jewellery boxes and mugs will help raise hope for women and children in local communities across Canada.

“With 50% of women in Canada experiencing physical or sexual abuse, violence against women is a critical issue. Through this annual campaign, we want to raise hope for women who have experienced abuse as well as build awareness about the issue of violence against women in Canada,” says Mina Mawani, President and CEO, Canadian Women’s Foundation. “Supporting and investing in emergency shelters and violence prevention programs helps provide women who have experienced abuse access to a safe place and opportunities to learn the skills they need to rebuild their lives and live free from violence.”

Shoppers can also purchase Hope decals for $2, $5 or $10 with all proceeds going directly to the Canadian Women’s Foundation’s 10th annual campaign to end violence against women.

I will feel good about purchasing these items to help support the Shop for Hope campaign. My favourite items are the decorative elephant, classic mugs and inspirational sports towels.

“WINNERS and HomeSense are committed to helping the Canadian Women’s Foundation raise hope and end violence against women. Together, along with other campaign partners, we are proud to have collectively raised more than $12 million over the past nine years to support women who have experienced abuse,” said Shannon Johnson, WINNERS HomeSense spokesperson. “Our carefully created beautiful Shop for Hope products inspire people to join this cause and help women in Canada who have experienced violence to rebuild their lives.”

My life is busy. I don’t wear ‘busy’ as a badge of honour, it is just the way our lives have evolved. Our children, pets, home, farm and careers take a lion’s share of our day. Once in a while my husband and I stop and reconnect.

My husband loves nothing more than being at the cottage, sitting on the dock and enjoying the silence, but in the middle of winter that is impossible. I asked my best friend to take the kids for a couple of hours while I prepared a simple, healthy meal, with our favourite ingredients. I found a recipe on and decided to modify it to suit our tastes.

Sherrie-Mae’s Chicken & Bacon Brown Butter Sacchetti

1 600g package of Olivieri Chicken & Bacon Sacchetti

6 slices Maple Leaf pre cooked bacon (chopped)

1 medium sized orange bell pepper

1/3 cup of unsalted butter

pinch of sea salt

dash of roasted garlic powder 4re4

sprigs of fresh cilantro

1/2 cup shredded mozzarella

The fresh Olivieri Sacchetti pasta took only three minutes to prepare. I browned the butter, cooked bacon and slices of orange bell pepper in a large saute pan  for 4 minutes, just until the peppers began to soften. I drained the pasta and tossed 1/2 of the cooked pasta into the the saute pan. Gently, with a wooden spoon I sautéed the pasta with the brown butter mixture. I then sprinkled roasted garlic powder and sea salt over the pasta while maintain a low heat for 2 minutes.  I finished the dish with a sprig of cilantro and shredded mozzarella.  In less than 15 minutes I created a romantic dinner with my husband.

We enjoyed the dish sitting by the fire place warming our feet and reconnecting.

The good people Olivieri Pasta are running a Valentine’s Day contest. The grand prize is a luxurious spa trip for two, a fabulous gift for the most romantic day of the year.

You can find more recipes and healthy ideas on Olivieri Pasta’s Pinterest page. I personally use the the Amazing Appetizers board weekly, for quick meals on the go.

I also follow Olivieri Pasta on Instagram, they post inspirational dishes daily. You should really check them out.

Coffee is my forte, good coffee that is. I have had a decade long love affair with @StarbucksCanada. Over a Starbucks Skinny Vanilla Latte, I have laughed, cried, shared pregnancy stories and grown closer with my girlfriends. You could say, I am loyal customer.

I also believe in the power of good karma and random acts of kindness. That is why I am happy to announce that Starbucks has an easier than ever way to send someone you love a coffee. I cannot tell you how many times on Twitter I have sent a virtual coffee or caffeine to a bleary eyed #earlyriser. My #EarlyRiser tweeps and I have at length conversations about the beauty of the coffee we are consuming. Now I can actually send them my favourite Starbucks coffee via Twitter.

Vice-President of Starbucks Canada Richard Burjaw, explains the program:

“Starbucks is a gathering place that creates moments of connection between people every day. Tweet-a-coffee is a brand new way for our customers to connect with friends and followers and share the gift of Starbucks instantly. Whether it’s to say #thank you, #congratulations or simply #justbecause we’re thrilled to enable the ability for customers to spread some kindness.”

Who will your first Tweet-a-Coffee tweet go to? Your BFF on the other side of the country, your favourite Olympic hockey player in Sochi,  when she/he scores her/his first goal of the games, or the weather man when he tells you the Polar Vortex is officially over. Whomever it is, you will make their day. Thanks to the partnership between @TwitterCanada and @StarbucksCanada my gift giving experience has just become easier & a little more personal for me. Combining  my love of Starbucks and my Twitter addiction into a tool for goodwill…oh yes, life is good my friends, life is good.

The fabulous head of Twitter Canada, Kirstine Stewart, explains:

“Canadians are among the world’s most active Internet users and with millions of Canadians engaging on Twitter, Tweet-a-Coffee represents an incredible opportunity for Canadians to engage, share and gift in new, simple way.”

Just a few clicks and your Tweet-a-Coffee is on its way to make someone’s day:

Beginning today, registered Starbucks account customers across Canada can now send a $5.00 Starbucks Card eGift through Twitter by following a few simple steps:

This is just the program I have been waiting for. I cannot tell you how many times I have checked Facebook or Twitter and found out it was someone’s birthday. I usually call my Sister or Mother and ask them to send flowers, but now I can just tweet a happy birthday message & a coffee from my favourite coffee-house.

This YouTube video was released explaining how to Tweet a Coffee, basically “a new way to say, you are awesome”.

Who will you send your first Tweet-a-Coffee to?

The Christmas Curse is a book written for every young person who has ever asked for more gifts at Christmas. The books brings to light the sad truth that our over consuming habits can destroy the happiness Christmas can bring.

Kimberly Kinrade, brings to life the story of Bella, a young girl who wanted more at Christmas time and the disastrous affects of having too much of a good thing. Along with her sisters, Maddie &  Lexie and faithful dog TayTay the family finds away to break the spell and understand that Christmas is really about giving of yourself rather than gifts in a fancy box.

My daughters, Katie nine and Andie seven, enjoyed this book and have shared it with their classroom teachers. This book targets a youth audience from 6 – 12 years of age, perfect for the Primary & Junior classroom. This story lends itself to be a “teachable moment” for students and gives a deeper understanding of the results of over consumerism in our culture.
